Teachers are underpaid, underappreciated, and overworked everywhere in the world. Sad, but true. Moreover, the importance of a good education (and therefore good teachers) is rarely acknowledged. In a capitalist world, you won't force the best people to teach maths when they can be paid two or three times more in industry.
